These poems are potent. On the left, German Lutheran pastor Friedrich Gustav Emil Martin Niemöller's post-war confession for not having done more to stop the rise of Nazism, in the prosaic style adopted by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The United Kingdom's Holocaust Memorial Day Trust has a longer variant, often taught in our schools. On the right, the Nigerian poet Niyi Osundare's work "Not My Business" follows a similar theme, and is compulsory reading for the English GCSE in the AQA anthology.

In the mind of every fascist and enabler thereof, there is always a deep recess which speaks to them for some reason they would rather not discuss: "maybe me". Don't make Niemöller's mistake. Tick tock. 🕙
