Who wore it better? On the left, Manhattan's Washington Square Arch, lit up with the French tricolore in solidarity with the country after the terrorist attacks in Paris of 2015. The monument itself is styled by Stanford White after l'Arc de Triomphe at the end of the Champs-Élysées in the French city. The latter has a nightmarish roundabout, if one is a driver, and I've been to visit it (stood on top of it, even!). On the right, India Gate in the country's capital, adorned by its Ashoka Chakra-infused tricolor, is a memorial to Indians' sacrifices in war under the Raj. David Crellin describes the Gate as a "creative reworking of the Arc de Triomphe".
The bridge between Paris and Delhi itself is constructed by Punjabi Dilliite Rani Mehra in Vikas Bahl's 2014 Bollywood film "Queen". She makes a pilgrimage to the European capital after her marriage plans break down.
